The Accendo Medicare supplement is a relative newcomer to the Medigap market. It was released in March 2020 as part of the companies under CVS Health. Its affiliation with Aetna – a well-known insurance company – gives the Accendo Medicare supplement a leg up on being trustworthy.
How has the Accendo supplement been developing over the last year and a half? What does its future look like? Let’s find out.
A Brief History of Aetna and CVS Health
Aetna and CVS Health joined forces in 2008. Both companies operate under the single purpose of getting individuals on a better path to health. Accendo is a product of their partnership and offers Medicare supplements that help with the rising cost of healthcare. The company wants to provide affordable plans that allow their clients to get the services and treatment they need to improve or maintain their health.
How does the Accendo Medicare supplement work?
All Medicare supplements have standardized coverage. Each alphabetically-labeled supplement is the same across all companies. Accendo Plan G is the same as Company B’s Plan G. Accendo offers three of the most popular, comprehensive supplement plans: F, G, and N.
Medicare supplements are secondary coverage to Original Medicare – Parts A and B.
Features that Set Accendo Apart from Competitors
Since Accendo falls under the CVS Health / Aetna umbrella, Aetna’s ratings also apply to Accendo. Aetna has been rated an “A” insurance company for years. There are a couple of features of the Accendo Medicare supplement that makes it stand out from other competitors.
First, Accendo offers a 14% household discount. This does not mean that everyone in your household has to enroll in the Accendo plan. To get the discount, you must simply live with someone who is 60 years old or older.
Second, the application decision is fast. You’ll get a yes or no answer almost instantly. Other carriers often don’t notify you for several days.

Popular Accendo Medicare Supplement Plans
Accendo offers a variety of Medicare supplements. Each state makes choices on which supplements to offer. The three most popular choices are offered in most – if not all – states.
Accendo Plan F
Accendo Plan F is only available to beneficiaries who turned 65 prior to January 1, 2020. Even though the Accendo supplements didn’t arrive until after that date, they do offer Plan F to individuals who are eligible. However, we would recommend comparing it to the lower rates of Plan G. As you’ll see, the two plans are not much different in their levels of coverage.
Accendo Plan F covers:
- Part A deductible
- Part A coinsurance and up to an additional 365 days of hospital costs after Medicare benefits are exhausted
- Part A hospice coinsurance/copayment
- Part B deductible
- Part B excess charges
- Part B coinsurance/copayment
- Blood (3 pints)
- Skilled nursing facility coinsurance
- 80% of foreign travel emergency expenses
Accendo Plan G
If you aren’t’ eligible to enroll in Plan F, Plan G is the next in line as far as comprehensive coverage and extremely low out-of-pocket expenses. The only difference between Plan F and Plan G is that Plan G does not pay the Part B deductible, which is $233 in 2022. As we mentioned earlier, you may find that the lower premiums more than make up for this deficit in benefits.
Accendo Plan G covers:
- Part A deductible
- Part A coinsurance and up to an additional 365 days of hospital costs after Medicare benefits are exhausted
- Part A hospice coinsurance/copayment
- Part B excess charges
- Part B coinsurance/copayment
- Blood (3 pints)
- Skilled nursing facility coinsurance
- 80% of foreign travel emergency expenses
Accendo Plan N
Plan N is a great alternative for those who are looking for an even lower monthly premium and don’t mind copays for office visits.
Accendo Plan N covers:
- Part A deductible
- Part A coinsurance and up to an additional 365 days of hospital costs after Medicare benefits are exhausted
- Part A hospice coinsurance/copayment
- Part B coinsurance/copayment, except for a $20 copayment for some office visits and a $50 copayment for emergency services unrelated to inpatient admission
- Blood (3 pints)
- Skilled nursing facility care coinsurance
- 80% of foreign travel emergency expenses
- No out-of-pocket limit
